Every time I go out with Husband and happen to meet up with some of the guys he knows from Guard, SOMEONE — not surprisingly they’re always the recruiters — tries to talk me into joining the Army.

DON’T FUCKING TEMPT ME!!

I can’t tell you how painful this is every time I mull it over. I can’t do that. I just can’t. And yet there’s still that evil little devil on my shoulder that whispers into my ear, you could do it, you know you could.  Admit it, you miss it. *headdesk*

Geez. I went to school with this kid’s older brother, whom, incidentally, I had the biggest crush on at the time. I remember going on a camping trip with friends and they were both there. After the trip, as I’m getting ready to go home, Ross looks up at me questioningly and says, “My brother says you’re mousy…” Hah!

He’s now being awarded a Silver Star. I’m sitting here listening to his story knowing my husband went through a similar incident while he was overseas. Only he was the one who was in ops and had to take the call when the guys in his unit were hit. They lost one and another kid lost his leg. I still remember getting that call from my husband and how absolutely devastated he sounded. I’m watching Ross on the video and there’s that same far away look in his eyes that Husband gets.

What do you tell someone when things like this happen? “Hey, congrats on the Silver Star, man!” ….Geezus. Hope he’s hanging in there. My heart goes out to him, his family, his soldiers and their families.

P.S. I probably shouldn’t call him “kid” because a) he’s an officer and b) he earned that title at West Point but I can’t help remembering him as young Ross Pixler, Ryan’s kid brother from back in the day.

Granted I’m not putting us into the poor house, but The Child has a better wardrobe than I do. I absolutely adore the Urban Explorer and Little Lady lines from Old Navy. The colors don’t assault my senses and the patterns aren’t overly cartoonish. And don’t even get me started on Baby Gap. *squee!* I’ve never been so girly about shopping. Granted Shake’N'Bake could probably care less what she’s wearing as long as she’s comfortable and not freezing to death, so getting such adorable clothing is completely useless. The same goes for toys; am I buying them for her or am I really buying them for myself?

Here’s to hoping our next little one is on the pink team or else we’re going to go through this all over again with the boys’ collection.

Freaking colds…  I’m off to watch The Leprechaun marathon on SciFi.

I read about this over at Petey’s place but I’m too chicken-shit to participate over at The Other Side (I also feel inclined to break the rules and edit my packing list) so I’ll post it here.
