One of the things that makes going to Gymboree on Thursdays worth enduring is the fact that it’s right next door to a comic book shop. After The Shake gets her fill of fun then I walk about 20 feet and get mine.
Today I went and got this there. I’ve been wanting to read it since high school, but only now did I pick it up. I just never got around to it, though in my defense, I don’t think it had been translated and published in English back when I discovered the series.
Heck, I had a real bitch of a time trying to find just about any anime/manga that I was interested in back then. I remember how excited I was when I found a bootleg VHS copy of Rayearth (not Magic Knights, just plain Rayearth) at a comic shop. It was the same place where I picked up the first volume of Vision of Escaflowne when it came out on VHS. It wasn’t until several years later that I found the rest of the series (also on VHS) at Suncoast. Of course, by that time, everyone was into Japanese Animation so it wasn’t as cool anymore.
Well, I’m off to read my new book do homework. *cough* Or… exercise. Or something.

Ha, you really should have made it to the comic-con while you where here…it’s unbelievable until you see it. So many books…so little time. That’s why I had Lasic. No twilight zone for me…hmmm…at least not that zone. Comic-con in four weeks…sweet San Diego…sweet, sweet books…I think I over use ellipses……..

I should have gone. I don’t know why I didn’t go. I had the opportunity. They even asked me if I went that next Monday at work. I think it was the thought of driving down there by myself and trying to find a parking spot for the truck that intimidated me. Nobody wanted to go with me *L*. I was the Lone Dork of MALS Ordnance, methinks.
I’m almost tempted to make a special trip to Vegas for the Star Trek convention this year, though. I don’t know how I’m going to swing it with the kid, GUH! maybe it’ll have to wait until next year.

Wouldn’t that be too cool going to another Star Trek convention? Reminds me of Galaxy Quest. I love that movie…. “memories…..” hear me singing “Memories….” LOL.

I forgot, they are expecting the entire convention to sell out this year, and you can’t buy tickets at the event. That’s about 110,000 people in geeky XTC…I have no idea where to park…oh yeah, COMNAVBASE is 3 blocks away. Military people get free downtown parking…I wish you would have said something.

No shit? Gosh darn it! We used to pull that whenever we needed to fly somewhere and be gone for an extended period of time. To get out of the airport parking fees, we’d park on base in San Diego and take a taxi to the terminal *L*.
The Trek Convention in Vegas is from Aug 6th — Aug 10th this year. I didn’t get to go last year for obvious reasons. Hey Mom, I suppose if you ever got free lodging for that period of time, we could both go together! Doesn’t have to be this year. I could bring Shake along. Never too early to be a geek.
Didn’t we see Walter Koenig, Michael Dorn, and Robert Picardo at the last one we went to? Poor Mr. Koenig…
“Say it! SAY IT!!”
“*big sigh* Where are the nuclear wessels?”
*CHEER!!!*

i have all the VHD books that are out so far. some of them are better than others, but the Amano artwork is always cool as hell. i think he has written about 20 and the english versions tend to come out about every six months. i am hoping they will greenlight some more movies if they sell really well

Poo! When did they start coming out in English?
And I hope they make more movies, too. Aside from the cheezy Vampires In Space ending in the last one, I wouldn’t mind seeing more. As I’m reading the first volume of the novels I’m noticing things mixed in from the first and the second movie. Bits of the novel also explain a whole heck of a lot of the uhhnn?? moments in the second movie (like the ending).
I’m going to have to watch both of them again. It’s been ages.
Love the artwork! As soon as I was able to get online and look that sort of fangirl stuff up, I saw the artwork and wondered how the hell I was going to get my hands on the novels. I even went through a vast amount of paper printing a bunch of it out for… I really have no idea what for, I just did. I can’t be the only one who printed a bunch of crap off the internet just because I thought it was cool back then.

i think they have been out for a good two years now *L* i actually just picked up #10 today haha the second movie is actually based on the third novel and the ending is definitely different, plus none of that Carmilla stuff. you should be able to get them all on Amazon if you want them fast. i picked up all of mine at Border’s except for #10, which i found at the bookstore on base today

Well at least it’s only been 2 or so years. I was afraid that I’d been out of the loop for a lot longer.

P.S. I’m getting the second book today. And maybe the third. I try to read slowly, but end up with book-quickies no matter how good my intentions are. *SIGH*
